On November 4th, Zurich hosted all Swiss Clubs and two International Clubs, Ulm (DE) and BlauwZwart (NL), for their annual KCZ and Friends tournament. And it was all we had hoped for and so much more!
The tournament started with a group phase, with Group 1 consisting of Lausanne, BlauwZwart and Zurich 2, while Group 2 included Basel, Ulm and Zurich 1. BlauwZwart and Zurich 1 were undefeated in the Group phase, which was followed by an elimination phase whereby Zurich 1 faced off Lausanne for a spot in the final and secured its place with an incredible buzzer beater from Pelle. BlauZwart also made it to the final after battling it out with Zurich 2.
The final results were in, with Lausanne winning the small final against Zurich 2 to gain 3rd place. In the big final Zurich 1 ended at 2nd place, after BlauwZwart successfully defended their title to win the tournament once again! Overall the day was such a great success, full of thrilling games (example to your right of how amazed we all were with the level of korfball) and we even captured the attention of Korfball Germany who wrote a nice article about the event that you can
find here.
After the tournament, we had the opportunity for some real mingling and bonding over food and drinks. The night continued at Paddy’s for more drinking and dancing. Finally, for a few very keen beans (and survivors of the night out) from Team Basel, Ulm and Zurich, there were a few friendly games hosted on the Sunday, to close off the weekend in the friendly spirit that it was intended for. Thanks again everyone for joining and congratulations to the winning team BlauwZwart!
