On 30th September, we finally had a match day again – a great opportunity for new and experienced players to get some game time. Basel Newcomer Alana agreed to give us an insight into the day:
„My Debut in the World of Korfball“
by Alana Valero
My first match day was a day of many firsts – my inaugural experience playing korfball with two full teams, and my first time witnessing a fully set up korfball court. I had been forewarned that the real court was bigger, but my endurance and lungs were evidently not on the same page. As I looked over at the seasoned KC Lausanne team, engrossed in their drills, nervousness began to creep in. However, this faded away as soon as we stepped onto the court. We engaged in several games with mixed teams, and I found immense joy in observing the highly skilled players who had been playing since they were seven years old. What struck me most was the camaraderie and sportsmanship on display. Players from both sides were unfailingly friendly, always ready to lend a helping hand, and quick to exchange high-fives, regardless of which team they represented. This environment created a truly welcoming atmosphere for a newcomer like me. My debut in the sport was an unforgettable experience, and I can confidently say that I eagerly anticipate the next opportunity to step onto the korfball court. 🙂
