We would like to thank Matthias Friedel again for a successful 5 years as coach of the Swiss National Team, ending with successful qualification to EU 2024 and only just missing entry to the WC in 2023. At the AGM Casper Boom has officially been appointed and introduced as the new Swiss National Team Coach. Casper will be focusing on two points:
the Development squad for strong new korfball players in Switzerland
and the upcoming European Championship 2024.
Casper is an experienced, still active Korfball player and coach. He has played the great game of korfball since he was 6 years old. His best performances were during his time at Dos ‘46, they were 3x indoor champions and 1x outdoor. They also won the European Cup 3 times. He has played all over the world during his years in the Dutch national team, where he connected with many other national teams he is still in touch with. When he is not coaching, he still plays on the 3rd team of Blauw Wit in Amsterdam. As a coach he trained as head coach at MIA, Dutch 1st level, and the second team of DOS ‘46 in the Dutch League, and other second teams of Korfball league. Professionally, he is a sports teacher and social worker for the city of Amsterdam. He is very enthusiastic to start coaching the Swiss Korfball National Team: Together, we will shine and play at our best during the European Championship in 2024. First session took place October 22nd, 13:00 to 17:00 in Basel.
Although he won’t be in Switzerland all the time, he is always available online for support, will evaluate videos. He is very eager to combine fun and hard work during his training sessions of sets 3-3 or 4-4. But most important to him is a good team spirit.
