A full summer has passed and I am sure a singular sporting event has been on everyone’s mind. And no, I am not talking about the Olympics or the Euro. I am of course referring to the European Korfball Championship in Turkiye coming up on 13-19 October (so soon)! With our National Team prepping all summer and ready to give its best performance, I thought it would be worthwhile to introduce them.
For those of you who have not followed up closely with the National Team development, over the summer our brand new coach, Casper, selected the creme de la creme of Swiss Korfball to represent us in the European Championship in Turkey. Ramping up for the tournament the team is in full preparation mode, training every month to improve their skills and teamplay. Some trainings were a joint effort of the National Development Squad and the National Team, and in August they even had a friendly match in the Netherlands. Big thanks to AKC Blauw-Wit for having them!
The team now consists of a few seasoned players along with a couple of newbies. Also, in an interesting turn of events, it has now become something of a family affair with a total of 7 Gfellers/Gfeller-blooded players having been selected- that is 50% of the team!

Romain, Gian Reto, Laurence, Levi, Sam, Rainier, Julien, Casper.
Missing in team picture: Estelle, Ben & Afke.
So now you know the full gang, each one bringing a unique touch and all together creating a Korfball superpower. The clock is ticking and the team draw has been completed, knowing we will soon be facing Turkey, Slovakia and Scotland! Make sure to show them your support by joining the YouTube livestreams and watch their sweaty (yet beautiful) faces making a mark on behalf of Switzerland! I personally look forward to cheering, yelling and maybe even breaking some plates in the true Greek spirit for all of them!
And if you are feeling a little extra generous click here to donate to their mission! For every donation of 10CHF, you will be a friend of Swiss Korfball; from 25CHF, you will receive a postcard with a personalized message and autographs of all players; and with 250CHF, you will receive a personalized korfball-ball with autographs of all the players!
Hoooooopp Schwiiz!!!
